The governor of Buenos Aires, Axel Kicillof, expressed his support today for the suspension of the Open, Simultaneous, and Mandatory Primaries (PASO) in the province, considering the arguments raised by those who support this alternative. He clarified that the final decision lies with the Buenos Aires Legislature and committed to respecting its verdict.
In his opening speech for ordinary sessions in La Plata, Kicillof urged the Legislature to make a quick decision on this matter, pointing out the need to define an urgent electoral schedule. He held President Javier Milei responsible for the chaos that would arise from the implementation of the Single Paper Ballot, as it would require voting in two different ballot boxes with different systems, which would significantly prolong voting times and complicate electoral logistics and counting.
The governor criticized the suspension of the PASO at the national level in the midst of an electoral year and accused Milei of putting his political interests ahead of democratic culture. In this context, he called for a collective effort to find a way to ensure efficient voting for the people of Buenos Aires and reminded that there are several proposals in the provincial Legislature to suspend the PASO.
In his role as governor, Kicillof emphasized the need to immediately initiate the organization of the electoral process by setting a schedule. He requested an urgent resolution regarding the uncertainty generated by the modifications introduced by President Milei.
